This 11-day escorted tour of India introduces you the country’s rich history, heritage, and culture. Along the way explore the best of India's famed "Golden Triangle" in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, and the holy Hindu city of Varanasi. Included sightseeing brings you to stunning sites such as the 11th-century Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib (Delhi’s most prominent Sikh house of worship). You'll also explore Old Delhi's colorful Chandni Chowk bazaar by rickshaw.No visit to India would be complete without a visit to the world-famous Taj Mahal—a timeless monument of ivory marble—built by some 20,000 laborers, artisans, and craftsmen between 1631 and 1648 AD for Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial to his beloved wife. Continue your tour of India in the “Pink City” of Jaipur with its opulent City Palace museum and gardens, and the Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds). A separate excursion brings you to Amber Fort, the jewel of the city. Here, see intricate mosaics, carvings, paintings, and mirror works of the white marble and red sandstone. Day 1 ARRIVE IN DELHI, INDIA
Welcome to India’s capital city! Hotel rooms are available for mid-afternoon check-in.
Day 2 DELHI
Today’s sightseeing starts with an orientation to see the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, India Gate, and the Presidential Palace. Afterward, take a RICKSHAW RIDE through Chandni Chowk, a captivating local bazaar. Here, ancient alleyways are lined with quaint shops selling all sorts of goods and souvenirs—from silver and saris to spices and electronics. Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure.
Day 3 DELHI–AGRA
This morning, visit QUTUB MINAR, the world’s tallest brick minaret, dating back to the 11th century. Next, visit HUMAYUN’S TOMB and GURUDWARA BANGLA SAHIB, Delhi’s largest and most prominent Sikh gurudwara (house of worship). After lunch in a local restaurant, drive to Agra and settle in for the evening.
Day 4 AGRA
Start your day with a sunrise visit to the incomparable TAJ MAHAL, an extravagant marble monument to love. Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan built it as a memorial to his beloved wife, who died during childbirth. To add to this memorable experience, you’ll also travel by TONGA (horse-drawn carriage) during your visit. Later, visit AGRA FORT, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, built by the Moghul Emperor Akbar. This impressive fortress of red sandstone conceals the imperial city of the Moghul rulers and its many palaces.
Day 5 AGRA–JAIPUR
Today, travel to Jaipur. In 1876, the city was painted pink to welcome the Prince of Wales, and it has been known as the “Pink City” ever since. This afternoon, visit the CITY PALACE and the adjoining MUSEUM, which houses a collection of rare manuscripts. Also, stop at JANTAR MANTAR and the famous HAWA MAHAL (Palace of the Winds).
Day 6 JAIPUR
This morning, visit the amazing AMBER FORT, built entirely of white marble and red sandstone. Tour the interior with its intricate mosaics, carvings, paintings, and mirror works. Enjoy some free time this afternoon.
Day 7 JAIPUR–DELHI
Drive back to Delhi today and prepare for your journey home.
Day 8 DELHI–VARANASI
Today, fly to Varanasi, the holiest of Hindu pilgrim cities, situated on the banks of the sacred Ganges River. This evening, your PRIVATE GUIDED SIGHTSEEING witnesses the GANGA AARTI (spiritual worship) on the ghats (steps) leading down to the Ganges.
Day 9 VARANASI
Around dawn, board a BOAT and watch a striking religious ritual—the Hindus’ devotional bathing in the Ganges. Observe hundreds of pilgrims gathered at the river’s edge, some practicing yoga, others meditating, and still others bathing fully clothed. Return to your hotel for breakfast and some free time. This afternoon, a PRIVATE GUIDED EXCURSION takes you to nearby SARNATH, the “Cradle of Buddhism,” where Buddha first spoke of his philosophy.
Day 10 VARANASI–DELHI
Enjoy the morning at leisure before flying back to Delhi.
Day 11 DELHI
Your tour ends with breakfast this morning. NOTE: Some flights depart Delhi very early in the morning. In these cases, breakfast is not included on Day 11, and you will have to depart for the airport late in the evening on Day 10 or just after Midnight on Day 11.
